After Donna Reed saw Bob Crane’s acting abilities on The Dick Van Dyke Show, she asked him to make a guest appearance on her own program. His character, Dr. David Kelsey, was such a success that he was written into the show permanently until he departed the show in 1964. The following year, Crane was given the starring role on Hogan’s Heroes, and the rest is history.
