Sigourney Weaver Confirms Involvement With “Ghostbusters” Sequel Coming Out In 2020
Perhaps the best news to come out of Ghostbusters Fan Fest weekend (June 7-8, 2019) was actress Sigourney Weaver's confirmation that she will be starring in the developing Ghostbusters sequel coming out in July 2020.
Parade confirmed that Weaver will be reuniting with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd for the flick. "It's going to be crazy working with these guys again!" she told the magazine. Weaver was tight-lipped about the movie's details but did reveal that she will be reprising her original role as hauntee Dana Barrett.
In the original 1984 film, Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) start a paranormal investigation and elimination service out of an abandoned firehouse in New York City. The film comes to a head when cellist Dana Barrett becomes possessed by Zuul, a demonic spirit haunting her apartment building.
Weaver's confirmation that she will be in the 2020 sequel is great news for fans. But while she expressed excitement over reuniting with Murray and Aykroyd, both of those actors have yet to confirm their involvement with the film. Aykroyd is reportedly producing and writing the film, though he hasn't confirmed that he will actually star in it. For his part, Murray hasn't said anything about the sequel either except for the fact that he'd be thrilled to take part in it if he was asked.
Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Carrie Coon (Gone Girl), and Mckenna Grace (Gifted) are also set to star in the Ghostbusters sequel. Jason Reitman is set to direct, which is only right since he is the son of the original franchise director, Ivan Reitman.
