The Wait Is Over: New Release Dates For Delayed Films Of 2020
When the latest installment in the James Bond franchise was called off early in 2020, people were shocked. COVID-19 had become such a problem worldwide, Hollywood decided to cancel some of its biggest releases, scheduling them for later dates. Well, the wait is over!
Since the curve is steadily flattening, studios have reshuffled release dates through the rest of 2020 and into 2021. So, unfortunately, we're going to have to wait for some of the highly-anticipated films a bit longer. But at least they're ready to come to theaters when the time is right! Take out your calendar; It's time to mark the new release dates of these motion pictures.
TENET - July 31, 2020
In typical Christopher Nolan fashion, not much is known about the film TENET. But we will tell you what we know so far. The film stars Robert Pattinson and John David Washington, and there is a secret agent who is tasked with traveling between timelines to stop World War III from happening.
Nolan thought of the idea for over twenty years, so there is no way he's going to ruin any huge plot points now! If you're interested in the mysterious movie TENET, then mark your calendar for July 31, 2020, its new release date.
Black Widow - November 6, 2020
When it was announced the release of Black Widow was going to be delayed due to the coronavirus, MCU fans were not thrilled, to say the least. Finally, Natasha Romanoff was getting a solo movie, and right after the events of Captain America: Civil War, too boot! Thankfully, the wait is almost over.
And on November 6, 2020, we're finally going to see into Natasha's past life in Russia, and how she was groomed by the KGB to be the ultimate spy. Of course, it's Black Widow, so there are bound to be countless intense action scenes.
Soul - November 20, 2020
Get ready to cry with Soul, the newest Pixar film. Honestly, we're kind of glad this one was delayed; it gave us more time to emotionally prepare for what is probably going to be a tear-inducing story. Speaking of, the film follows Joe, a jazz teacher who has a horrible accident, leading his soul to detach from his body.
Now, he's in another realm, working alongside other souls preparing their personalities for life on Earth. But Joe has a body, and needs to get back to is pronto. Watch what happens to Joe on November 20, 2020.
Wonder Woman 1984 - October 2, 2020
Wonder Woman is back, but this time it's 1984 and during the Cold War. And, instead of fighting some god of war, Diana Prince is fighting two foes, a friend-turned-enemy Barbra Minerva and businessman Maxwell Lord.
Oh, and somehow her love interest from the first movie, Steve Trevor, comes back to life. We're not entirely sure how that plays out. So we're very excited to see Wonder Woman 1984 when it's released to theaters on October 2, 2020.
Candyman - September 25, 2020
From the creative mind of Jordan, Peele comes his chilling take on Candyman. In a Chicago neighborhood, there is an old ghost tale about a man with a hook for a hand that goes around murdering the town residents. And if you say his name five times in the mirror, he is bound to appear behind you.
If you're interested in following Anthony McCoy as he explores the urban legend via his art, then you're going to want to keep the lights turned on and all of the mirrors covered. The new release date for the film is September 25, 2020.
The New Mutants August 28, 2020
By this point, we're curious if The New Mutants is just haunted or so cursed we'll never see it in theaters. The film was made in 2017 and has had four releases scheduled, all of which fell through. Finally, we might have the pleasure of seeing the R-rated X-Men film on August 28, 2020.
The film follows five young mutants, all of whom just discovered they have fantastical powers while being held at a top-secret facility. Of course, they're all there against their will and must fight their way to the exit and freedom, saving themselves from any further experiments.
Mulan - July 24, 2020
Due to movie theater closures, the release of Disney's live-action Mulan was postponed. Thankfully, the wait to see one of China's fiercest warriors is almost over. Get ready to see Mulan defend her honor, join the all-male army, and save China from ruthless invaders.
Although there is no talking dragon, musical numbers, or a romance between Ping/Mulan and Shang, Disney fans are anticipating the live-action film to be something to behold. The new release date for the film is July 24, 2020.
Eternals - February 12, 2021
Taking place after the tragic events of Avengers: Endgame, Eternals follows a race of aliens that have made Earth their home for the past 700 years. Not only are they just now coming out of hiding, but they're only doing so because the evil Deviants, their counterparts, have risen.
Now, it's up to the Eternals to save the human race. Unfortunately, fans aren't going to meet the new MCU characters until next year. The new release date for the highly-anticipated film is February 12, 2021.
No Time to Die - November 20, 2020
The 25th installment in the James Bond franchise, No Time to Die, was the first film to be delayed due to the coronavirus. But the studio finally set a new release date. So, fans of the Bond movies are finally going to see Daniel Craig's Bond come out of retirement to track down a missing scientist.
Of course, it's a bond film, so nothing is going to be simple, and there is bound to be a worldwide threat lingering in the shadows. The new release date is set for November 20, 2020.
Shang-Chi And The Ten Rings - May 7, 2021
We first meet the terrorist organization The Ten Rings in Iron Man. They're the people who capture Tony, prompting him to build his first iron suit. Now, the group is back in Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings. But instead of going head to head with a weapons specialist and genius, they are up against something else altogether.
Shang-Chi is a master of unarmed combat, so it's going to be interesting seeing him fighting a group that loves their automatic weaponry. What do you think is going to happen in this MCU movie? Well, you have some time to think about it because it's new release is May 7, 2021.
Godzilla Vs Kong - May 21, 2021
As the fourth installment in the legendary MosterVerse, fans have been waiting kind of patiently for the release of Godzilla vs. Kong. Well, maybe not so patiently. It is the fight of the century after all. Alas, it won't be released until May 21, 2021.
The film follows the secret government agency Monarch, as they begin to uncover the origins of the two Titans. But while they're on the verge of discovery, a conspiracy threatens to wipe out all creatures on the face of the Earth.
The French Dispatch - October 16, 2020
based on Wes Anderson's love for The New Yorker magazine, The French Dispatch is described as "a love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city." Although the film follows three storylines, it centralizes around a journalist who is fighting to write about real-world events.
Andreson has said that the plot of the film isn't easy to explain. So, we guess you're just going to have to go watch it when it's released to theaters on October 16, 2020.
Uncharted - July 16, 2021
To all of the Tom Holland fans ut there, we're sorry that you have had to endure multiple delays for the film Uncharted. Oh, who are we kidding; we're huge fans of his, too. But, unfortunately, the movie wasn't delayed once, or twice, but a solid five times before landing in the July 16, 2021 slot.
Now, we get to wait an entire year before seeing Holland portray Nathan Drake, a fortune finder and supposed descendent of explorer Sir Francis Drake. If you're a fan of the video game this film is based on, you're going to want to mark your calendar for its release date.
Top Gun: Maverick - December 23, 2020
Tom Cruise is back in action in Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun. After being one of the Navy's top aviators for more than 30 years, it should be time for Pete "Maverick" Michell to ground himself. Of course, he doesn't, taking a job as a test pilot.
But then he finds himself doing something unimaginable, training the recent Top Gun graduates for a dangerous mission. Who knows what's going to happen! But you can find out on December 23, 2020.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife - March 5, 2021
After having theaters closed for so long, it'll be nice to go back in to see a family-friendly comedy. Set 30 years after the events of the second Ghostbusters film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife follows the story of two kids who move to their late grandfather's home in Summerville, Oklahoma.
But when they get there, they find out about their strange heritage. Apparently, their direct descendants of the original Ghostbusters! Now, it's up to them to save the town from any paranormal activity that may happen. The new release date is set for March 5, 2021.
Morbius - March 19, 2021
Fans of Spider-Man villains were upset after learning the release of Morbius was going to be postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. We mean, who didn't want to see Jared Leto's redemption role after the Joker? Regardless, the film follows the story of biochemist Michael Morbius.
Now, the good doctor experiments on himself, trying to cure his rare blood disease. Instead, he develops a weird case of vampirism, as one does when they play around with blood. F9 - April 2, 2021
Just when you thought there was nothing left for the Fast and Furious franchise to write about, they come up with a solid plan for F9. The gang is back and better than ever in the ninth "fast" installment. And this time, they're going up against their biggest foe yet.
There is a member of the Toretto family people don't know exists, Dom and Mia's brother, Jakob. Now, it's up to the crew to stop Jakob before he's able to take them out, per his deal with Cypher. Get ready for another action-packed adventure on April 2, 2021.
Jungle Cruise - July 30, 2021
Another Disney film whose release was delayed was Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and the lovely Emily Blunt. The new release date for the film is set for July 30, 2021. And trust us, it's going to be worth the wait.
Based on the Disney ride, Jungle Cruise follows boat captain Frank as he takes scientist Lily Houghton and her brother McGregor Houghton on a trip to find the Tree of Life, of which is said to have healing properties. But with wild animals trying to eat them and a competitors boat on the river, the trio is in for a wild ride.
The Batman - October 1, 2021
When it was announced Robert Pattinson was going to portray Batman, the first thing that popped into a lot of people's minds was if he would sparkle in this movie, too. So far, it doesn't seem as though director Matt Reeves has any plan to throw glitter on Pattinson.
On the contrary, The Batman is going to be an "after origin story" of the legendary hero. In this film, he's not yet a hero but isn't a novice either. We're excited to see what the actor does with the role, and with all of the infamous villains, the film is teasing. Get ready; the new release is October 1, 2021.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness - March 25, 2022
Unfortunately for MCU fans, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been pushed back yet again and is set to release on March 25, 2022. Of course, it probably still won't be enough time to mentally prepare for the madness that will most likely occur in this film.
If you didn't catch it from the title of the film, it is going to cross-over to multiple universes, and rumor has it some include Loki and WandaVision. Well, only time will tell how much madness we're going to go through when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is finally released in theaters.
