More than 20 years ago, Independence Day helped catapult Will Smith’s career into a great space. However, when the trailers for the sequel started to come out and people didn’t see any sight of Smith, many questions started to rise. In the second installment, they used a new actor who was supposedly Smith’s son.

Smith revealed why he didn’t do the second movie. “It was one of those things — I had a couple of films lined up, I had Concussion and Suicide Squad, and so it was a decision, timing-wise, between Independence Day and Suicide Squad,” the actor said. “They were sending pictures from the set, and I was like, ahh.”
