Nashville was going to be canceled but CMT ended up saving it by renewing it for a fifth season. The excitement in fans grew a ton when this news was revealed but nine episodes in, that same excitement would turn into disappointment. Rayne James, who is played by Connie Britton, would end up dying in a car crash in the ninth episode.

This wasn’t the show’s decision. Britton had chosen to leave herself in order to focus on outside projects and other reasons as well. The show still was renewed for a sixth season after her departure and feels they can move on with or without her.
