Bob Marley, the Jamaican Rastafarian and Reggae star, was known for embracing the spiritual side of life. His songs are infected with a sense of happiness and a laid-back attitude. In 1977, it was discovered that Bob was suffering a malignant melanoma on his toe. Although doctors suggested he have the toe amputated, he decided to have the skin removed and replaced with a skin graft. Unfortunately, the procedure did not work. In 1980, after performing two sold-out concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Bob was going for a run in Central Park when he collapsed. He was informed that cancer had spread to his brain. In 1981, he died at the age of 36 due complications from cancer. The last words he spoke were to his son Ziggy. He said, “Money can’t buy life.”
