In 2015, a young woman whose identity has not been revealed was discovered by two graduate students behind a dumpster. At the time, her rapist former Stanford student and swimmer Brock Turner was perched on top of her. In March 2016, he was sentenced to six months in jail and probation.
Many people were shocked at his lenient sentence. After, his victim released the victim impact statement she made in court, to various news publications. Journalist Ashleigh Banfield was moved to tears while reading the letter on air. Vice President Joe Biden wrote an open letter to the victim, calling her a hero.
