Stunning Gowns From The 92nd Oscars And Vanity Fair After-Party
The 92nd Academy Awards brought out all the big stars on February 9, 2020. As always, the red carpet and after-party looks did not disappoint. While some of the ladies opted for a classic Hollywood glam look, there were many women who took the bold and daring route with their dresses. Freida Pinto's dramatic gown commanded attention while Kristin Wiig's look was beyond comparison. Here are the most memorable looks from the 92nd Oscars and after-party.
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron opted for an elegant black gown for the evening. The actress wore an off-the-shoulder gown designed by Dior Haute Couture. The flattering cut featured a long leg slit and a dramatic train. She paired the gown with jewelry from Tiffany & Co. including a diamond pendant necklace.
Theron became the first South African to win an Oscar in the acting category when she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in 2003's Monster.
Saoirse Ronan
Irish-American actress Saoirse Ronan was named one of the best looks of the evening by Harpers Bazaar. She donned a custom gown designed by Gucci for the big night. The unique design featured a black and ivory-toned top with a deep V-neck and ruffled skirt.
The ruffles then descended into a long, light lavender skirt that was red-carpet worthy. Ronan accessorized with beautiful diamond dangling earrings and quite a ring.
Scarlett Johansson
Actress Scarlett Johansson rocked the Oscars red carpet in a custom Oscar de la Renta gown. The ivory-toned dress was well-fitted, flattering her figure.
The top featured layers of beads added some sparkle and shine. One of the more classic looks of the night, Johansson's floor-length gown featured a beautiful train. She's been nominated for two Academy Awards during her acting career but has yet to take home an Oscar.
Brie Larson
Actress Brie Larson has taken a very un-Hollywood approach in her personal life and has chosen to keep all matters under wraps! Larson says she prefers to keep her private life out of the tabloids as not to typecast her for any one role.
Larson attended the Oscars wearing a gorgeous pink gown. Designed by Celine by Hedi Slimane, the dress featured more than 13,000 Swarowski crystals, 6,500 pink strass jewels, 120,000 sequins, and 110,000 glass beads, according to Harper's Bazaar. The dress reportedly took over 1,200 hours to make.
Kristen Wiig
Actress Kristen Wiig had one of the most unique looks of the night, wearing a red ruffled dress with a bold fit. The dress was as bright as Wiig's personality, turning heads with the unique shape which brings a generous amount of volume to what could have been a more simplified pencil dress.
She paired the gown with long black gloves and gold heels. In 2011 she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing - Original Screenplay for Bridesmaids, but she's yet to take home an Oscar.
Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie was dressed to kill on the Oscars red carpet. Robbie has been nominated for two Academy Awards but has not been declared a winner-- yet. She is, however, one of the highest-paid actresses with plenty of accolades to her name.
Robbie opted for a black vintage Chanel gown for this year's Oscars. The off-the-shoulder gown from the spring/summer collection of 1994 featured uniquely tied sleeves and a stunning vintage gold and blue pendant.
Renee Zellweger
Actress Renee Zellweger took home the coveted award for Best Actress for her performance in Judy. Her Armani Prive gown was selected by her long-time stylist Petra Flannery. Speaking of Zellweger, Flannery told Vogue, "She's just a wonderful person and very decisive."
Her look at the Oscars was a stunning off-the-shoulder fitted silver gown that sparkled in the bright lights of the exciting evening. She accessorized the look with a David Webb ring. According to Flannery, Zellweger pays close attention to how her gowns fit to flatter her figure.
Michelle Rodriguez
Michelle Rodriguez wore a stunning black gown to the Oscars that showed off the actress' fit figure. The off-the-shoulder dress also featured a strap design. Long sleeves added some Hollywood glamour along with the length.
Rodriguez paired the gown with elegant black pointed-toe heels and a black and diamond necklace. You can never go wrong with a black gown at a formal event like the Oscars. She has been nominated for many awards, but not an Oscar... yet!
Christina Ricci
Actress Christina Ricci wore a dramatic dark green gown to this year's Oscars party. The dress featured both a collar and shoulder pads with long, puffy sleeves and floor-length style. Sparkles adorned the collar, sleeves and floor-length slit for some added glamour.
Ricci has yet to take home an Oscar although many think she deserves one. She has previously made the list of "Worst Oscar Snubs Ever" for her performance as Dede Truitt in The Opposite of Sex.
Salma Hayek
Actress Salma Hayek stunned is this dazzling blue gown at the Oscars party. Although she hasn't taken home an Oscar, Hayek was nominated for Best Foreign Film as a producer of 1999's El Coronel No Tiene Quien Le Escriba.
Her sequined midi dress showed that she was ready to celebrate the evening. Hayek also altered her hairstyle from earlier in the night, letting some of her locks loose for a half-up, half-down style.
Kate Beckinsale
British actress Kate Beckinsale wore an absolutely stunning red sequined dress to the Oscars after-party. The 46-year-old wowed in this crimson-colored gown featuring a halter style top and elegant fit.
She opted for a timeless hairstyle with her locks flowing, tucked back behind her ears to reveal her diamond droplet earrings. Beckinsale was certainly a vision in crimson for the after-party! Although she has several other awards and nominations to her name, she's yet to be nominated for an Academy Award.
Maria Sharapova
Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova attended the Oscars after-party wearing this fun, bright green gown. She's a regular at the award show's after-party and never disappoints with her incredible looks. On Instagram, she credited her team of her makeup artist, hairstylist, and stylist for putting together her look, saying: "It takes a village. Seriously."
Her stylist Tracy Taylor selected this Valentino dress for the big night, featuring ruffled sleeves and an open back with a scarf tie. Sharapova brought along her boyfriend Alexander Gilkes as her date.
Vanessa Hudgens
Actress and music artist Vanessa Hudgens attended the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party wearing a gorgeous deep purple Vera Wang gown. She had a lot of fun twirling around the train of her dress for the cameras, too!
The halter dress was made of silk and you can tell that she felt confident rocking it for the big night. She wore her hair down with just a touch of sultry makeup to complete the look.
Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia Erivo rocked the carpet at the Oscars after-party wearing this stunning gown. The actress, singer, and songwriter selected a gorgeous lilac and teal strapless silk gown for the evening that caught the attention of many.
It was a big night for Erivo, as she was nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Harriet Tubman in Harriet. She also performed the Oscar-nominated song, "Stand Up" that night at the Oscars.
Idina Menzel
Actress, singer-songwriter Idina Menzel attended the after-party wearing this stunning dress. Menzel rocked a strapless column dress with a silver beaded bodice and elegant black skirt bottom that flowing down to the floor.
Her reaction to James Corden and Rebel Wilson stepping out onstage in their Cats costumes went viral after someone made a meme out of it. The split image was a play on the "Woman Yelling At Cat" meme that exploded on the internet earlier this year.
Kylie Jenner
Make-up maven Kylie Jenner attended the Oscars after-party wearing a stunning gown designed by Ralph and Russo. The strapless navy gown was gushing with crystal embroidery and hugged her curvy figure.
She later shared on Instagram that she "couldn't really sit in this [dress] but it was worth it." Jenner must have been telling the truth, as she later switched into another gown during the same party-- that allowed her to sit while wearing it.
Barbara Palvin
Victoria's Secret Angel Barbara Palvin dressed to impress at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. She wore a gorgeous gown designed by Atelier Versace that flaunted the model's figure. The gown was accented with Swarovski crystal embroidery that was inspired by a horse's mane.
Palvin attended the event with her boyfriend Dylan Sprouse, who assisted the model in looking her best by fixing the train on her dress while she walked the carpet.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley arrived at the Oscars after-party wearing a gorgeous Saint Laurent gown. The black, off-the-shoulder satin gown was an elegant choice for the big night, as Huntington-Whiteley keeps her fashion style classic and poised.
The gown was designed with large, dramatic sleeves on the otherwise fitted dress with a small slit on the back. The model completed the look with stunning diamond earrings. She attended the party with her fiance, Jason Statham.

Of course, Kurkova was invited to Vanity Fair's party. She was a cover girl for the magazine, after all!
