Fashionistas, Keep Your Eyes On These Stylish Royal Sisters
When many people think of fashion and the British Royal family, the first names that come to mind might be Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle. But there are two sisters who have emerged as perhaps the most fashionable in the entire family: Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
Though they've been a bit more under-the-radar in the international spotlight, these two are starting to make headlines for their cutting-edge style and sophistication. Let's take a look at some of the Royal sisters' best fashion choices over the years.
Eugenie Turned Heads Picture-Perfect In Red
To mark her grandmother Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday, Princess Eugenie opted for this stunning red Eponine fit-and-flare dress with neckline cutouts. A national thanksgiving service was held to mark the occasion, which took place at St Paul's Cathedral in London on June 10, 2016.
Eugenie topped the look with a glamorous yet understated black fascinator, matching handbag, and smart pumps. Neutral makeup and understated jewelry completed the elegant look.
Beatrice Beautiful In Blue
Royal-watchers around the world noticed this eye-catching blue dress worn by Princess Beatrice for the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle in 2018. No one would ever dare upstage the bride on her special day, but Beatrice came close in this fashionable turquoise Roksanda Viola number.
The festive midi-length dress featured long, billowing sleeves and was accented with delicate beadwork. In lieu of a hat, Beatrice chose a unique matching headpiece designed by Stephen Jones.
Eugenie Out And About In London
Princess Eugenie has been known to break fashion rules from time to time, and it always works out in her favor. This casual but chic striped shirtdress might not be the expected outfit for a Princess to choose to wear to dinner, but she pulled it off with style and class. The flaming red pumps and matching lipstick brings everything together in a glamorous way.
This photo was snapped at the Chiltern Firehouse restaurant, a hot-spot among A-listers and one of Eugenie's personal favorites. She's even been seen there multiple nights in a row!
Beatrice Goes Bold With Accessories At The 2014 Serpentine Gallery Summer Party
The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party is an annual charity fundraiser attended by A-list celebrities and royals alike. It's definitely a see-and-be-seen affair. For the 2014 party, Beatrice chose this lovely and summer-appropriate white Nicholas Oakwell couture dress embellished with tiny delicate flowers.
Her choice of accessories personalized the look. Not one to shy away from color, the strappy lavender shoes and green neon clutch added an edgy feel that suits Beatrice's bold personality.
Another Party, Another Eye-Catching Look For Eugenie
Never one to shy away from color, Princess Eugenie opted for this quirky midi dress with a unique print at the 2017 Serpentine Gallery Summer Party. She paired it with a thin black belt, triangle-shaped earrings, a simple bracelet, and a pair of grey silk heels.
At the time, Eugenie worked at the Hauser & Wirth art gallery as an Associate Director, and was later promoted to director. Her interest in art could certainly help explain some of her untraditional tastes in fashion.
A 'Romantic' Look For Beatrice
Now here's a look that's not full of bold colors but makes a distinct fashion statement regardless. This is Princess Beatrice in full "flower power" mode at the NSPCC Neo-Romantic Art Gala in 2015. The long and flowing black dress with full, sheer sleeves is accentuated with delicate pastel flowers.
Beatrice reminds us that you don't need a lot of accessories to make an outfit stand out. Her simple black clutch and loose curls pull everything together beautifully.
Eugenie Goes Boldly Retro For Harry And Meghan's Wedding
For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's May 2018 wedding, Princess Eugenie wore a more demure look than some might have expected to see her in. She chose this baby blue Gainsbourg dress topped with an elegant pillbox hat by Fiona Graham. A neutral handbag and silver heels completed the ensemble.
Beatrice wed her fiancé, wine merchant Jack Brooksbank, just a few months later. We'll see what she wore to her own wedding soon!
Standing Out For A Fashionable Evening
What do you wear to attend an exclusive behind-the-scenes exhibit honoring one of the most famous fashion designers in the world? Well, if you're royalty, you might dress something like this. Here are Beatrice and Eugenie with their mother Sarah, Duchess of York, attending the VIP exhibition "Valentino: Master of Couture" in London in 2012.
Beatrice wore a cream embroidered dress and black patent leather heels while Eugenie chose a fitted navy dress topped with a black zipper jacket with puffy sleeves. The Duchess wore a sleeveless black dress and matching Aruna Seth black satin butterfly shoes.
It's Always Wedding Season When You're Royalty
Here are Princess Eugenie and her then-fiancé Jack Brooksbank as they arrive for the wedding of Pippa Middleton and James Matthews at St Mark's Church in May of 2017.
Although this look is understated, Eugenie wowed in the short navy blue Paule Ka dress with shoulder cutouts (she does love cutouts!) and matching shoes with red accents. A sleek silver Anya Hindmarch clutch and simple white pillbox hat complete her ensemble.
That Glorious Butterfly Fascinator
Princess Beatrice is no shrinking violet when it comes to expressing herself through her fashion choices, and the hat she wore when her cousin Peter Philips married Autumn Kelly is a perfect example.
The unique Philip Treacy creation featuring dozens of multicolored butterflies turned heads (in a good way) when Beatrice debuted it at the 2008 wedding. It was paired with a butterfly print dress, which was topped by a cream-colored blazer.
Punky Peacock Print For Princess Beatrice
As mentioned, the Serpentine Summer Party is one of the biggest social events of the year, and the Princesses can always be counted on to bring their sassiest styles. At the 2018 event, fashionable celebs such as Alexa Chung, Suki Waterhouse, and Bianca Jagger made appearances but Beatrice might have out-dressed them all.
This year, she wore a bold peacock print dress by Mary Katrantzou and paired it with Charlotte Olympia heels. The casual and cool Wilfred Free for ARITZIA jacket is the perfect finishing touch.
Mother And Daughter Daring In New York City
Princess Beatrice and her mother Sarah, Duchess of York, absolutely stunned the crowd at the 2016 Angel Ball at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Beatrice wore a navy military-inspired dress with elaborate gold embroidery from Tommy Hilfiger's ready-to-wear collection. Her shoes also featured gold embellishments -- so chic.
Sarah's sleeveless tangerine-colored floor-length gown added a jolt of flattering color to the scene. Her look was topped off with gold jewelry and a multi-hued floral clutch.
Christmas Day Chic
The princesses are not apt to let a little Christmas drizzle stop them from looking completely fabulous right down to their glamorous high-heeled shoes! This photo from 2015 shows Beatrice and Eugenie as they arrive for the Royal family's annual tradition of attending Christmas Day Church Service at St. Mary Magdalene's at Sandringham, which is their grandmother's beloved country estate.
Heavy wool coats, each a different shade of blue, keep the rain out and the warmth in as the sisters head into the service.
Wedding Bells For Eugenie's Big Day!
As we've seen, Princess Eugenie attends many, many weddings each year. In 2018, it was her turn to walk down the aisle and she could not have selected a more gorgeous gown to get married in. For her marriage to Jack Brooksbank, the princess wore a flowing, low-backed gown designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos.
The bridal look was completed with a one-of-a-kind piece you won't soon find in any department store -- it was the stunning Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, which was lent to her by the Queen herself.
How Royalty Dresses For The Races
For the first day of the 2019 Royal Ascot, Princess Eugenie wore a vivid turquoise dress. It had a gorgeous full and pleated skirt with an accent panel in bright yellow. This color combination sounds daring but she pulled it off perfectly by adding a chic and summery yellow fascinator.
Princess Beatrice opted for a monochromatic look, choosing a periwinkle lace dress and matching hat with neutral shoes. Both princesses look so lovely here!
Beatrice's Moody Blue At The Summer Party
The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party is clearly a favorite event for both women. What's not to love about showing off your top-notch fashion choices for some of the most stylish people in the world?
Beatrice looked radiantly glamorous in a deep floral blue L'Wren Scott dress at the 2013 party. Minimal accessories, save a blue clutch and printed silver heels, meant that all eyes were on Beatrice and how perfectly the flattering dress accentuated her features.
A Jaw-Dropping Dress Over Pants For Eugenie
Pictured here with Jack Brookbanks shortly before they got married, Eugenie really mixed things up at the 2018 Serpentine Summer Party. She made the daring decision to pair a one-shoulder floral Roland Mouret dress with a pair of chic black leather skinny pants! And black nail polish to match -- so fierce!
Even if she didn't clearly relish the attention, there was no stepping out of the limelight in this eye-catching ensemble.
Beatrice Goes Elegantly For Old-School Glamour At Alexander McQueen Event
When Princess Beatrice attended the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition to honor the late designer in 2015 she looked absolutely incredible. The fashion-forward beauty wowed in a sleek black tuxedo gown that featured a daring slash all the way to her thigh.
Dressed in the icon's own design which was accentuated by bright red lips, bejeweled accessories, and a metallic handbag, Beatrice was all old-school Hollywood glamour for the event.
Family Florals For The Win
Individually, the princesses have terrific fashion sensibilities. But when you see them together the effect is overwhelming! Here, the ladies stun in coordinated short floral dresses paired with knee-high boots. Beatrice wore a black dress with red printed flowers while Eugenie chose a dress with yellow and white flowers.
The photo was taken at a Louis Vuitton party in London in December of 2017. That explains the statement LV handbags they're both carrying!
Winning At The Races Again
A day at the races calls for a bit more subdued look, and the princesses always manage to get it just right. Here they are on Day 3 of Royal Ascot 2017 at the Ascot Racecourse.
Eugenie shines in red here, in a flattering A-line dress with short sleeves and matching navy hat, clutch, and shoes. And Beatrice looks equally beautiful in a blue-and-black number with darted skirt detailing and a black floral hat.
Another Punk-Inspired Look For Beatrice
Just because they're members of the British Royal family doesn't mean that Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie can't express themselves through their fashion choices. We've definitely seen that both women tend to enjoy pieces with an "edgy" quality to them, and in this photo Beatrice is clearly channeling punk rock influences. Just look at those strappy boots!
The event was a launch party for the new Alice + Olivia fashion collection in New York City in 2016.
Eugenie: Glowing In Green
This is a color we want to see Princess Eugenie in more, as it looks magnificent on her. The stunning, vibrant green floral dress she's wearing as she arrives at Westminster Abbey in July 2019 complements her newlywed glow, and her beaming smile is a wonderful accessory.
The semi-sheer number is another Alice & Olivia design, retailing for around $585. It features a V-neckline, wrap-around bodice, and a tie waist, all of which are ultra-flattering to any figure. Eugenie has actually worn this same dress to a couple of other events. We think she should keep it in permanent rotation!
Keeping Warm In Dazzling Blue
Princess Bea and her fiance Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi got into the Christmas spirit early in 2019. Here, the cute couple was spotted leaving a Christmas Carol Concert at St James's Church on November 26.
They're staying warm in style, with Beatrice's over-the-knee boots, black dress, and peacock blue coat adding a fashionable touch to the evening. Her minimalist jewelry and makeup, along with half-up, half-down hair, make this look casual and effortless but still very chic.
All Dressed Up For Easter
The princesses spent Easter 2017 with their family, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and of course they were dressed to the nines for the event. Hats are a huge part of any Easter ensemble, and the sisters nailed their choices.
Beatrice opted for a gold leather button percher, featuring purple leather trim, by designer Justine Bradley-Hill. It was the perfect topper for her sheer crochet dress. Eugenie also went for a percher, but hers was cream leather with a bright pink ombre straw flower.
Beatrice And Kate Have Both Worn Versions Of This Dress!
Princess Beatrice and Duchess Kate Middleton wore nearly-identical emerald green dresses within just a few months of each other. See, the royals are just like us! (Not really.) This particular look was designed by a brand called The Vampire's Wife.
Beatrice debuted the sparkling look in October of 2019 at the book launch for The Dior Sessions. Kate wore hers, which featured fewer tiers, on a visit to a pub in Ireland on March 3, 2020.
Subtle Shine For Eugenie
These royal sisters clearly know how to dress for any event. Here's Eugenie at the Animal Ball Art Show private viewing in May of 2019. For the occasion, she wore an ombre pink-coral-blue-teal dress imprinted with layers of gold.
The sleeveless, tea-length dress was designed by Peter Pilotto. Paired with some silver studded Valentino studded pumps, it's a look that's eye-catching but not overwhelmingly shiny. Just perfect for an art show!
Twice As Nice
When the fashionable princesses go out together, all eyes are on them. Take this stunning example from the Gala at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, New York, on December 16, 2013. Princess Eugenie went for a black lace dress with a fetching bright red lipstick -- a classic combination.
Beatrice opted to wear a green v-neck dress that showed off her eyes. The fitted bodice and full swing skirt looked just dashing on her and were perfectly paired with black patent Mary Jane shoes.
Not Too Matchy-Matchy
It can be tricky to pull off a monochromatic look, but Princess Beatrice did it without a hitch when she showed up at cousin Zara Phillips' 2011 wedding to Mike Tindall. The key is incorporating different patterns and textures, which Bea did artfully.
She wore a bright blue dress that was adorned with crystals and flowers, and she layered that with an unembellished jacket. A matching hat embroidered with more flowers added the finishing touch.
Serious Heels For Cousin Zara's Wedding
Princess Eugenie's choice of color scheme for Zara Phillips' wedding ceremony might have been a bit more subtle than Beatrice's, but her outfit is just as fiercely fashionable. Just take a look at the platform soles on those pumps! Yowza.
Along with the towering nude-toned shoes, Eugenie wore a sculptural brown and beige fascinator hat that matched the neutral tones of her "skirt-suit," which consisted of a dress and jacket.
A Spring Print For A Special Service
For a family occasion such as the traditional Royal Maundy Service, dressing modestly is a must. Even so, Princess Eugenie found a way to stay stylish when she donned this lovely floral spring dress by Erdem for the 2019 service.
The demure navy hat brings out the color of Eugenie's eyes, and her entire ensemble complements the Queen's yellow outfit. Maundy Service happens every year on the Thursday before Easter Sunday, and the Queen hands out money to local retirees in a special ceremony.
Red Satin At A Charity Event
Princess Eugenie became an ambassador for the marine charity Project Zero in 2018, and later that year attended the London premiere of the conservation film Sharkwater Extinction. For the event, she chose a strikingly bright red satin duster coat over a black midi-length dress.
As we've seen, Eugenie seems to favor red while Beatrice gravitates to blue although they do shake things up from time to time. This particular eye-catching look of Eugenie's was just right for drawing attention to a charity that's near and dear to her.
Beatrice At Her Best In Navy Lace
Some people claim that the bride is the person to watch at a wedding. Those people have clearly never attended a royal wedding that had Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie as guests. One look at this navy lace number that Beatrice chose for the 2019 wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor to Thomas Kingston is proof enough of that.
The stunning dress, by Self Portrait, retails for around $470. Bea topped it with a white hat and strappy Tabitha Simmons heels.
Eugenie In Color Block
For a 2017 fundraiser, Princess Eugenie went bold in a figure-hugging color block gown. The slimming nude, white, and black number really makes her tall and shows off her nicely toned arms at the same time -- double bonus!
Here, she's pictured with socialite and PR guru Astrid Harbord, who has been closely connected to several members of the royal family including Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.
Look Familiar?
If you've been paying attention, you might notice that this look of Princess Beatrice's is somewhat similar to the outfit her sister wore to the Sharkwater Extinction premiere the previous year. Great minds think alike, especially when it comes to fashion.
Here, Beatrice is attending the Burlington Arcade 200th anniversary dinner in London, which took place in May of 2019. She's stunning in a black mini dress topped by a bright red ankle-length satin coat. The princess opted for bare legs and black ankle-strap shoes under the vibrant coat.
She Even Makes Peter Pan Collars Look Good
Peter Pan collars can be notoriously difficult to pull off in an elegant way, but here we see Princess Eugenie doing just that as she attends the book launch of The Dior Sessions in late 2019. She looked quite fetching in this black mini dress, cinched at the waist and featuring a flattering pleated skirt and that white Peter Pan collar.
Completing the look, the princess chose a pair of chic black ankle boots and a handbag with a gold chain strap. As usual, her makeup and hairstyle are understated and flattering. Always classy.
Pretty In Purple
Jet-setting Beatrice is pictured in Rome here, attending a 2016 fundraising event for HIV victims. The asymmetric Roberto Cavalli gown she's wearing is adorned with diamante detailing on the shoulder and also features a cutaway design.
Her choice of accessories is spot-on: metallic clutch and shoes with plenty of sparkles on her bracelets. One side of her hair is pulled back, which helps show off the gown's detailing, and even her eyeshadow matches the metallic theme. Brava!
A Casual Look For The Cinema
What does royalty wear when they go to the movies? Take a look; Eugenie is much more casual here than she would be for a wedding but still looks effortlessly stylish in these faux suede leggings and a blazer. Her strappy high heels certainly help glam up the look.
She's pictured with Mary Charteris and Sienna Miller as the three attend a special screening of the film American Woman on October 9, 2019 in London.
Who Says Redheads Can't Wear Burgandy?
For the 2019 National Portrait Gallery Gala in London, Princess Beatrice chose this lovely burgundy velvet cocktail dress by Alaïa (price tag nearly $10,000!). It was a big night for Bea, as it was her red carpet debut with then-new boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
The fitted bodice dress featured a collar and buttons down the front, and the princess wore it with black tights and blue moody crushed-velvet Mary Jane platform shoes.
Ooh La La Leather
Even though we've clearly seen that the princesses are not afraid to buck royal tradition with their fashion choices, this faux leather dress on Princess Eugenie might be unexpected! Of course, she makes it work 110% and looks great wearing it.
The flattering belted frock isn't her only (faux) leather dress, either. She's been spotted in a dark olive Topshop version as well, which retails for just $70... very reasonable for royalty.
Beatrice In Burberry
Fashion is all a matter of taste, so there's no way to please everyone, every time. This look that Beatrice chose for part of the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations received some criticism for its boldness, but as we've seen, the Princess does not shy away from wearing what she likes.
This hand-embroidered geometric coat is by Burberry and retailed for around $3,800, and Beatrice chose yet another statement hat to top off the special look. We love it.
