Dave Chappelle Says Comedy Saved His Life
Comedy wouldn't be the same if Dave Chappelle had never entered the game. Apparently, Chappelle wouldn't be the same without comedy too! He recently revealed that his career in the comedy genre saved his life.
He was recently honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on October 27th. The award is considered the highest accolade in comedy and recognizes those who had an impact on American society.
"I love my art form because I understand every practitioner of it, whether I agree with them or not I know where they're coming from," said Chappelle in his acceptance speech. "They want to be heard, they got something to say, there's something they notice. They just want to be understood. I love this genre, it saved my life."
A lineup of Chappelle's famous friends paid tribute to the comedian including Bradley Cooper, Tiffany Haddish, Trevor Noah, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, and Jon Stewart.
"He's not just a comedian, that's the way that he channels that knowledge and that process," said Stewart. "[He's] a man that seeks out people and experience and knowledge, and he wants to touch it and feel it and be with it on the ground so that he can then channel that through his art, and then redirect that back to you as something completely different and new."
There's no one out there more deserving of this award than the legend that is Dave Chappelle. We're sure his comedy has saved many people too!
