You might have noticed that Julie Emrick departed the show after only two seasons. It turns out there was a tragic reason behind her departure. On the show, Julie has moved to New York to find her birth mother. In real life, Amy Jo Johnson’s mother passed away. Amy Jo asked J.J. Abrams if he could find a way for her character to exit the show.

Amy Jo was clearly under a lot of stress, and it’s definitely understandable that one would want time to grieve after such a major loss. Amy Jo talked about the instance in 2012 and said,”In hindsight, I wouldn’t have asked to go. I mean, I don’t regret anything, but at the same time if I did it again I wouldn’t have asked to leave Felicity.”
