Merida from the animated film Brave perfectly exemplifies the role of a strong and independent young woman. At the beginning of the film, however, she has some issues that give off the wrong idea of how to handle adolescent problems.

She has no problem throwing teenage tantrums, collapses beneath any pressures put on her, and is blatantly disrespectful to her parents. Although she eventually overcomes these flaws, it makes young viewers believe that it’s okay to act that way since Merida did, and she still turned out to be the hero of the story.
