A ‘Beverly Hills Cops 4’ Is Finally On Its Way
It's been 35 years since the original Beverly Hills Cop came out. We've had sequels since, but it's been many years since Eddie Murphy has revived his role as the iconic Axel Foley. Thankfully, he recently confirmed that there is a plan for a Beverly Hills Cop 4.
In a recent interview with Collider, he confirmed there are plans to begin the film when he's finished doing a sequel to another one of his movies from the 80s.
"Yeah that's what we're doing after Coming to America 2. We're doing Beverly Hills Cop and then the plan is to get back on stage and do more stand-up," said Murphy.
His portrayal of Axel Foley in the original 1984 movie is widely regarded as the role that cemented his status as one of Hollywood's leading men. The series went on to feature two more movies, one in 1987 and one in 1994, production on a fourth never moved forward completely.
Murphy has stated in the past that the scripts presented for a fourth movie have never been "right."
"None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise," Murphy told E! News in 2011. "If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong."
Murphy insists that despite committing to numerous remakes recently, he won't be returning to the busy schedule he had in the 1980s and 1990s.
"I'm not going to be making two or three movies a year like I did back in the early days," Murphy told Collider.
We wonder what other sequels Murphy has up his sleeve. Maybe there will be yet another Shrek movie in the future...
