This story is in ways similar to that of Elvis’. Johnny Cash grew up during the great depression and may have been poorer than Elvis was. He was raised by cotton-farming parents in the Great Depression so you can put two and two together when trying to figure the money situation.

Cash had a vision of living better so like many other youngsters in this era, he enlisted in the military in hopes of a better life. He found out that life wasn’t for him and he went to audition at Sun Records. The rest is what we call history.
