They Overcame Rocky Childhoods
Elvis Presley
Elvis grew up living right above the line of poverty during the Great Depression. He and his family lived in a two-bedroom house that they could only afford thanks to a loan they received from a local farmer. One day his dad got caught forging a check and arrested. Soon after, he and his mom were kicked out of the house.
Eventually, his mom applied for public housing and they got accepted in a poor town in Memphis. It was a one bedroom apartment and Elvis had just started high school. Elvis had to work various jobs to help support his family.
