The artist whose debut album went three times platinum in America does not hide her troubled past. Bursting onto the scene in 1996, Apple experienced something that no woman should ever have to go through. And any interview she has, you can tell she has a hurt soul.

Something that many (wrongly and sadly) argue is a woman’s fault happened to Apple when she was just 12 years old. It doesn’t matter what a girl or woman is wearing or how many drinks she has had, she does not ever deserve assault. This incident is the reason why she turned to self-loathing and an eating disorder. Luckily, she has been able to work through her issues and has had a successful career.
