While “Respect” gets all the … respect… there are actually a number of hits that all came out around the same time. After six years with Columbia Records where she was pushed into exploring more of a jazz and show tunes style, she would sign with Atlantic Records and rediscover her soul and gospel roots.
In 1966, just before the release of “Respect,” she also released “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and “Chain of Fools.”
