In the summer of 2017, the city of Detroit paid Aretha the ultimate compliment by naming a street after her. The city named a section of Madison after the iconic singer, and the section between Brush and Witherell will forever be known as Aretha Franklin Way.

Considering all of her accomplishments, the moment had a profound impact on Franklin, who admitted that she was a bit emotional about the honor. The street-naming ceremony was the kick off for the inaugural four-day Detroit Music Weekend, which is a showcase of the city’s artists and entertainment district.
