Franklin has never been afraid to break down barriers, and had a real problem when it came to Super Bowl XL on February 5, 2006, at Ford Field in Detroit. Franklin was quick to point out that there was no Motown presence appearing on the Super Bowl halftime show, which just doesn’t fit with the mold of Detroit’s rich music history.
The NFL quickly realized their mistake and had Franklin appear to sing the national anthem to kick off the game, along with Aaron Neville.
