Aretha Franklin has been a worldwide icon in the music industry for decades now, and it’s pretty easy to see why. She’s a decorated musician and has the respect of the music world at large. Franklin has long been one of the more private celebrities in recent memory, but there are a few things that we’ve learned about the music icon over the years.

From her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction to her experiences with Presidents spanning a number of decades, Aretha Franklin had a career that will span the test of time. Unfortunately, Aretha Franklin passed away on August 16, 2018, but her career will live on forever.

She Was A Self-Taught Pianist

Aretha Franklin was big into the music scene from a very early age. When she was a young child, she would accompany her father to church, where he was a prominent Baptist minister with connections in gospel music.

While she was with her father at church, she began to teach herself how to play the piano, despite the fact that she couldn’t actually read the sheet music. This ability to pick up music so easily would obviously serve her later on in life.
