The Most Heartbreaking Celebrity Deaths Of 2016
Muhammad Ali
For someone that we all thought would live forever, the death of the Greatest of All Time hit the world hard. On June 13, 2016, we said goodbye to the greatest ring fighter in the history of the sport after a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay, started in the ring at the young age of 12, became a champion Olympic fighter by 1960, and defended his heavyweight title six times before publicly denying his draft in the army. Following his final fight and loss against Trevor Berbick, Ali retired and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and as such his superman-like ego became humanized in the eyes of the world. In his last years, Ali fell silent but his faith in being the greatest there ever was never failed.
