Stephen Hawking died at his home in Cambridge early in the morning of March 14, 2018, at the age of 76. His family said that he passed peacefully. He was spoken highly of by individuals in the scientific, entertainment, and political communities.

The college flag at Cambridge Gonville & Caius College flew at half-mast and a book of condolences was filled out by the students. Fifteen years ago, Hawking said that he wanted the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy equation as his epitaph after his passing.
