In 2002, the BBC included Stephen Hawking in their list of 100 Greatest Britons after a UK-wide vote. Then, in 2006, he was awarded the Copley Medal from the Royal Society, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the United States highest civilian honor, and the Russian Fundamental Physics Prize.

In 2007, Hawking and his daughter Lucy finished and published George’s Secret Key to the Universe, a children’s book with the goal to explain theoretical physics in a manner suitable for children with characters that represent members of Hawking’s family. There were sequels of the book released in 2009, 20111, 2014, and 2016.
