In 1992, A Brief History of Time was turned into a film, directed by Errol Morris and produced by Steven Spielberg. Originally, Hawking had wanted the film to be more scientific than biographical, but he was ultimately convinced otherwise. The film was not widely released although it was well received by critics.
Then, in 1993, a collection of interviews, essays, and talks titled Black Holes and Baby Universes and Other Essays was published. In addition, there was a six-part television series called Stephen Hawking’s Universe in 1997 with the focus being entirely on science.
