Turner has had three unsuccessful marriages that produced five children. He was married to Judy Nye from 1960 to 1964, Jane Shirley Smith from 1965 to 1988, and actress Jane Fonda from 1991 to 2001. Ted remained close with Fonda even after their split and was reportedly devastated by the breakup.

Ted reportedly gave Jane $40 million in the divorce settlement, despite not wanting her to leave. “I couldn’t do anything else. What am I supposed to do, sit down and cry? I did for six months,” he revealed in an interview. “And after that, you gotta go on.”
