Martin Scorsese Bashes Marvel Movies
Martin Scorsese is a well respected, Oscar-winning movie director. However, he might have just lost some of his fans if they were also fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He recently told Empire magazine that they're not "real cinema."
Scorsese, who directed films such as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, was asked if he had ever seen any of the Marvel movies.
"I tried, you know? But that's not cinema," said Scorsese. "Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn't the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being."
Despite his opinions, Marvel's Avengers: Endgame is the highest-grossing film of all time, so there are a lot of people out there who think a lot differently than Scorsese. In response to such criticism, director Kevin Feige responded, "I would much rather be in a room full of engaged fans." It's hard to argue with statistics when they clearly show Marvel movies are ruling the movie industry.
