A year before leaving finance, the Stewarts moved to Westport, Connecticut where they purchased an old farmhouse on Turkey Hill Road. The farmhouse, built in 1805, was quite a fixer-upper, so the Stewarts took it upon themselves to restore it into the house that it is known as today. No longer with a career, Martha directed her energy into the house and through its numerous projects, her flair for decorating and home improvement was becoming more and more apparent. The Stewart’s home restoration would become a decades-long project, within which time Stewart took on side ventures as well.
