It is a little-known fact that actor-extraordinaire once had a child. In 1967, Wilder married a woman named Mary Joan Schutz, who already had a daughter named Katharine from a previous marriage. When Katharine started referring to Wilder as “dad,” he decided the best thing to do would be to adopt her.

Seven years into the marriage, Katharine began to suspect that Wilder was cheating on her mother with one of his Young Frankenstein co-stars which caused Wilder and Schutz to divorce. Wilder and Katharine subsequently became estranged from each other and Wilder later lamented in 2002 that he “lost her a long while ago.”
