Kids With Famous Parents: Where Are They Now?
Custody Battle
During the time of the trial, many people wondered what would happen to the two youngest Simpson kids. After OJ was acquitted, he was granted full custody of Sydney and Justin, since California custody laws prefer to grant custody to biological parents whenever possible. People were shocked at the decision, especially since OJ pleaded no contest to spousal abuse years before. However, the judge handling the custody proceedings declared that there was no evidence that would imply that the children would be in danger under his care.
Lou and Juditha Brown, Nicole Brown’s parents who the children have been staying with during the trial, appealed the decision in 1998 because “the grisly circumstances of the murder itself simply could not be ignored,” according to The New York Times. OJ Simpson was still granted custody because the children apparently wrote an emotional letter to the appeals court judges requesting to live with their father.
