Sam Alexis Woods was born to pro-golfer Tiger Woods and his then-wife, former model Elin Nordegren. Sam was born in June 2007, just hours after Tiger Woods had placed second in the 2007 U.S. Open. Sam’s name is not short for “Samantha,” but in fact, she is just named Sam. Tiger explained that when he was a boy, his father used to call him “Sam” instead of “Tiger,” because he “looked more like a Sam,” which is where Tiger drew the inspiration for his daughter’s name.
