John Krasinski Is One Of Hollywood’s Good Guys
John Krasinski is so much more than Jim Halpert from The Office. He's also a writer/director, and one of the hardest working men in Hollywood. Looking to shed his everyman image from the NBC comedy, Krasinski starred in a few action films before settling in behind the camera for A Quiet Place. The unsettling soundless horror film was a huge hit and established the star as a force to reckoned with in the industry. It doesn't hurt that everyone he's ever worked with loves him. Here's everything you need to know to help you fall in love with Krasinski, too!
He Did A Lot Of Research For The Office
After getting the role of Jim Halpert on The Office, John Krasinski flew out to Scranton, Pennsylvania to see what the city was really like. He interviewed people in the paper supply business and shot footage of the area.
Believe it or not, the footage that Krasinski shot ended up being used for the show's opening credits. It turns out he dipped his toes into directing long before he was hiding from monsters and protecting his family in A Quiet Place.
He Married Emily Blunt At George Clooney's House
When John Krasinski and Emily Blunt tied the knot in 2010, they did it in a special place: George Clooney's Lake Como estate. Krasinski friended the actor and director while filming Leatherheads, a 1920s-set football movie.
The wedding was magical, and Blunt and Krasinski are still married today. They have two kids together and even beat the curse of working together on A Quiet Place. For these love birds, the sky is the limit to how far their relationship can go.
He Was An Intern For Conan O'Brien
Before becoming one of Hollywood's biggest stars, John Krasinski had to get his foot in the door. Early in his career he was able to get a job as an intern on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He worked with the scriptwriting team and even wrote several jokes for the host.
Since then, he has appeared as a guest for Conan several times. In one interview he even revealed a hidden talent. According to Krasinski, he can move around like he is a puppet connected to strings.
He's The Shortest In His Family
John Krasinski has two brothers, and even though he looks tall to the public, he always comes up short in private. Standing 6'3" makes the actor the shortest of his siblings, and it's not even close.
Krasinski's tallest brother is 6'10" while his other brother is 6'6" which really puts his height into perspective. And the size of his family! The average male in the United States is under six feet tall. The Krasinskis, especially John, are clearly anything but average.
Pam Was His First On-Screen Kiss
Starring in The Office wasn't Krasinski's first acting gig in Tinsel Town, but it did provide him an intimate first kiss. His smooch with Pam early in the show's run was his first ever on-screen kiss.
Luckily, everything turned out just fine after that awkward kiss. On the show, Jim married Pam. The Office ran for eight seasons, and the possibility of a ninth one is still being discussed today. Would you tune in for that? We know we would!
Molly Ringwald Holds A Special Place In His Heart
Growing up in the 1980s it was impossible for John Krasinski to avoid "Brat Pack" films starring Molly Ringwald. As a result, the teen dream turned into his first Hollywood crush, and he fell hard.
During the decade, Ringwald starred in Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, and The Breakfast Club. In the three decades since then, Ringwald has continued to act steadily in film and television. Most recently she starred in Kingfish, which is scheduled for release in 2019.
He Created Lip Sync Battle For Jimmy Fallon
Do you remember how the hit television show Lip Sync Battle began? Here's a hint: it wasn't with LL Cool J as a host. It was actually first created by John Krasinski and Stephen Merchant for a sketch on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
The sketch proved so popular that it was developed into a full-length reality television competition. Each episode, two celebrities challenge each other, with the audience deciding the winner. In one memorable episode, Emily Blunt performed "No Diggity" by Blackstreet.
Reality Television Is His Guilty Pleasure
With so many accolades to his name, you wouldn't think Johnn Krasinski would waste his time watching reality television, but he does. His biggest guilty pleasure is dating shows like The Bachelor or The Bachelorette.
What can we say? After a long day of performing and directing, sometimes there's no better way for Krasinski to turn his brain off then to settle in for the night with Paradise Hotel. It's good to know that he's really not that different than the rest of us!
His Best Friend Is B.J. Novak
B.J. Novak played Ryan Howard on The Office alongside John Krasinski. Working on the show, however, was not how they met. The two first became friends in high school as students at Newton South High School in Massachusetts.
Graduating in the same class together formed a bond that went beyond friendship. Novak's career might not have taken off the same as Krasinski's when The Office ended, but he has continued to work. Most recently he played himself on the CW show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
He Took Classes With The Royal Shakespeare Company
John Krasinski spent years honing his craft to make it look easy. Early on, he even studied at the Royal Shakespeare Company -- one of the most prestigious theatre companies in the world.
Other notable names that have worked with the Royal Shakespeare company are Patrick Stewart, Alan Rickman, Tilda Swinton, and Ben Kingsley. That's pretty lofty company for Krasinski to be a part of, especially since he wasn't born in England. Before heading overseas, he studied acting at Brown University.
He's Acted With His Parents Before
In 2007, Krasinski starred opposite Mandy Moore and Robin Williams in License to Wed. The film follows a couple as a reverend puts them through a series of relationship tests to strengthen their bond before the wedding.
When it came to casting Krasinski's parents in the film, the choice was easy; use his own. If you remember watching the movie and thinking they all looked alike, now you know why! Mandy Moore was not afforded the same luxury during filming.
Teaching Was His First Passion
What kind of world would we live in if John Krasinski had stuck with his first passion and became a teacher? Before starting his first year at Brown University, he lived Costa Rica for several months and taught English for extra money.
When he returned home, he planned to focus on teaching as his career. Then he started acting and fell in love. Choosing to dedicate his life to the arts was a huge risk, and it ended up paying off with a huge reward.
A Not Very Romantic First Date
Emily Blunt and John Krasinski first met each other through a mutual friend, and when they went on their first date, it was almost a huge disaster. The future husband and wife went to a gun range, which doesn't sound very romantic to us.
The date went well, and more dates followed. In 2010, the couple got married, and in 2017 they were able to show off their sharpshooting skills together in A Quiet Place.
Captain America Almost Came Calling
Can you imagine John Krasinski as Captain America? When casting was happening for Captain America: The First Avenger, Krasinski was considered for the role. During his audition, he reportedly ran into Chris Hemsworth and felt intimidated by the actor's physique.
As you know, neither Hemsworth or Krasinski ended up as Captain America, although one of them still found their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thor. The incident may have inspired Krasinski to bulk up, as he sported a carved new look in 2016 for the movie 13 Soldiers.
Horror Was Not Always His Favorite Genre
Growing up, Krasinski was not a fan of the horror genre. He didn't even start showing an interest in the genre until directing A Quiet Place. Today, thanks to the success of that movie, he has changed his tune.
His love has gone so deep for horror films he is even developing A Quiet Place 2, which is scheduled for release in 2020. Emily Blunt has been confirmed as returning, with Cillian Murphy coming on board in an unknown new role.
He Played The Monsters In A Quiet Place
To create the monsters for A Quiet Place, CGI was used along with motion capture technology. As John Krasinski got deeper into production, his stage skills ended up playing into the film. He acted out how the creatures were supposed to walk for the visual effects team.
On Jimmy Kimmel Live he explained what happened next, "I said, 'Well, this is how I think he's gonna crawl.’ And they just said, ‘Well, why don’t you throw on the suit?’ And I was like, 'Totally!"
He Saved A Life In Costa Rica
Going back to Krasinski's time in Costa Rica reveals this incredible story. He was on Manuel Antonio Beach one day when he saw a young girl get swept away by a riptide.
Without thinking about his own safety, Krasinski jumped into the dangerous water to pull her out. His mom was a lifeguard and taught him rescue skills growing up. In an interview with Playboy he said, "In that moment, I didn't ask anyone. There was no one to help me. I just went out and tried to save her."
Keeping Jobs Is Not His Specialty
Acting jobs may be coming easily for Krasinski today, but when first entered the working world he had trouble holding down a gig. According to the actor, he was fired from at least nine jobs before making a living on-screen.
One of his fastest firings came as a bartender. He revealed on The Today Show, that his boss fired him immediately after he made an already drunk bar patron sick. It definitely wasn't his proudest moment.
The Office Role Almost Slipped Away
When John Krasinski tried out for The Office, he must have nailed his audition. Before even entering the room he had upset the show's creators with an off-handed comment. He didn't know who was talking to before the audition when he said remakes of foreign shows usually "pale in comparison."
The person he made the comment to was Greg Daniels, who adapted The Office for American television. Like we said, his audition must have one of the best in the history of casting auditions.
He Still Takes Emily Blunt Out On Weekly Dates
Almost a decade into his marriage with Emily Blunt, Krasinski makes sure to make time for his wife. Every week, the couple go on dates, and it never gets old. You might even say it's the secret to their successful marriage.
Krasinski is confident it helps, "At the end of the day, it's important to preserve your relationship. It’s really fun because I have an amazing wife who will also go out on dates with me. We don’t need much. We just go to dinner and talk and have no baby talk."
