George C. Scott’s list of accolades is enormous. The actor won his third Primetime Emmy and first Golden Globe for 12 Angry Men. His portrayal of General George S. Patton in Patton garnered him awards from the National Society of Film Critics, The Golden Globes, the New York Film Critics Circle and The Motion Picture Academy. Despite his success, he wanted nothing to do with the iconic, shiny, gold statue.
In 1970, Scott declined his best actor nomination for Patton. He told the Academy that he would refuse award if he won, yet they gave it to him anyway. Patton then called the ceremony a “two-hour meat parade.” Needless to say, he wasn’t there to accept his win.
