Chefs don’t’ usually walk on their sets and just start cooking. There’s a lot of preparation that probably goes on before the chef even gets there. At the Food Network Studios, there are behind-the-scenes kitchens where a crew prepares the exact same dishes the chef will make in an episode.

They usually prepare each dish at every stage to show viewers up close what the dish is supposed to look like, as opposed to waiting for the food to cook on camera.
